Phil Mickelson got super unlucky on National Left Handers Day

However, given his recent hot streak, Whistling Straits could be his Promised Land.

“No, not concerned at all,” Fowler told a news conference on Tuesday.

In preparation for the PGA Championship, Jordan Spieth is trying to get into Phil Mickelson’s head.

Mickelson was the first golfer to arrive at the green, and he leaned down to scoop up the ball.

Laughter rippled through the crowd.

Mickelson, at age 45, has not won a tournament in two years.

That’s what led to Mickelson and Spieth good-naturedly arguing about who would hit the first approach shot into 18. His entry into this game is another longstanding tradition of Mickelson’s.

While I certainly respect Spieth and agree that he’s the favorite, I’m not willing to back him at such a low price in such a big field. It’s the only major trophy Mickelson has yet to win.

Mickelson: “No, my Wanamaker from ’05”.

“Careful on those stairs, Rory”. McIlroy missed five weeks and his PGA Championship was in doubt until this past weekend because he tore a ligament in his left ankle playing soccer.

Mickelson, of course, has been pretty quiet on Thursdays through Sundays this year.

Leading up to the British Open, Mickelson, a notorious trash talker, had tried all of his tricks on Spieth and some of the younger golfers, according to ESPN’s Kevin Van Valkenburg.

He has not broken par in his past seven rounds at the majors, the longest such streak of his career. He hasn’t busted out in a major yet but then, he hasn’t played all that many majors in his career-the PGA is his 13th. You can struggle Tuesday and go work on a few things and figure it out.

In addition to all the bets, Mickelson also never shuts up during these practice round games.

He shot a 6-under-par 66 on the day to move to 5 under for the tournament, way back of the leaders but good enough to give him a confidence boost. That score put him in a tie for sixth in ’04 but was only good for 12th in ’10. Maybe it’s because the golf course changes every year, it’s not the same venue.

After tee shots, Spieth often strode alongside Mickelson, asking questions, formulating this week’s game plan. Mickelson has been setting up these practice-round games – just for fun and a bit of cash – for years. It’s going to be a long week. “We all use it for the same thing, just to kind of check and see what’s going on, what we may need to tighten up for the coming days”.
