IFA 2016 preview: What to expect from Samsung, Lenovo, Sony, more

Samsung is also expected to launch curved monitors at IFA that will come with quantum dot (QD) technology, ideal for the gamers out there.

IFA is nearly incomplete without new Xperia smartphones from Sony and this year, the Japanese smartphone maker is likely to introduce X and not Z series device. Believed to be a 4.6-inch handset, the Xperia X Compact will boast the same flagship features found on the Xperia X Performance, but as you can expect, with a smaller screen size.

Sony is not only launching the X Compact but it is also said to launch its flagship device Xperia XR (codenamed F8331). ASUS which had already announced the ZenFone 3 series will likely present some mid-tier smartphone at IFA.

A GFXBench listing tells us the following specs: 4.6-inch screen, 4GB RAM, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 32GB built-in storage, 16MP read camera, 8MP front-facing cam, NFC, WiFi, Blueooth, and other basic sensors like proximity, GPS, accelerometer, heart rate, and gyroscope.

Huawei, the no 1 smartphone brand in China and no 3 globally in terms of shipments has already sent invites for its September 1 event where it claims to defy expectations.

Besides than just tablets and mobile phones, IFA is also becoming a wearables show.

The keyboard of Lenovo’s new 10.1-inch Yoga Book, unveiled yesterday evening, dispenses with physical keys in favour of a keyboard projected on to a flat slate, giving haptic feedback when the virtual “keys” are pressed.

Huawei Mate 9 was recently revealed at a Weibo leak and it is expected that this device will show up at the IFA 2016. According to the rumours, there will be three variants – the Classic, the Explorer and the Frontier.

One thing that gave this away is Asus’ tweet saying that “The time for something incredible is now!”. Fitbit, on the other hand, has announced the successors of Flex and Charge. Latest laptops are also likely to be presented at the event. ASUS VR headset along with an Huawei VR gear will hog all the limelight.
