The programme – which draws heavily on supernatural thrillers from the 1980s – received critical acclaim and nearly instant cult status upon its release in July this year.

Like any good show, the eight episodes of season one left us hanging, giving us way too much rope to work with when it comes to fan theories.

The supernatural drama has become the breakout hit of the summer, and was crafted by Matt and Ross Duffer.

Season 2 will premiere in 2017 and will have nine episodes.

Netflix officially revealed the news by releasing a short teaser.

Here’s everything we know so far about season two.

The Duffer brothers have also been pretty candid about their future plans for the series, hinting that season 2 will pick up at least a year after the first season ended. There’s no casting news yet but it’s probably safe to say we’ll see most of the original cast back, including Winona Ryder, David Harbour and those extraordinary kids. According to the duo, nearly the entire cast from the first season will return to Hawkins, Indiana, which includes Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo and more. No news of cast changes yet, although we know that four new characters will be showing up. In fact, he felt that it was best to really leave that up in the air for now. We’ll also get to explore the Upside Down a little bit more.

“[There are] a lot of questions there in terms of, if the Monster is dead, was it a singular monster?”

‘So we’ve opened up this doorway, and to us it’s exciting to talk about, like, what else is behind there? “There’s a lot more mystery there to be solved”.

“There’s still things that are unresolved”, Ross Duffer told Entertainment Weekly. “I don’t think you’ll see it in Season 2”.
