A man accused of attacking his friend with a broken golf club in Wakefield was in court on Wednesday.

Prosecutors say Day was high on heroin and LSD when he stabbed the 18-year-old victim during a fight.

Day was ordered to be held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing Friday.

He suffered a life-threatening injury when Day plunged the shaft of a busted golf club through his back at the right shoulder and it came out his chest, Middlesex Assistant District Attorney Julie Kunkel said.

A stabbing victim is loaded onto a MedFlight helicopter. Police told WBZ that the attacker was known to the victim, and that the stabbing occurred during a fight between three people.

The man was airlifted to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he is expected to recover.
