Pistorius to be released 10 months into five-year sentence
South African prison services two months ago have already mentioned a release for August 21st, just one sixth of Oscar Pistorius’ sentence.

Six-time Paralympic champion Oscar Pistorius will reportedly be released from a South African prison next week after spending 10 months behind bars for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
The athlete was acquitted of murdering his girlfriend on Valentines Day in 2013, but was found guilty of manslaughter by shooting her four times through a door.
He claimed afterwards he had shot her by accident having mistaken her for a burglar.
While under “house arrest” at his uncle’s home he will be allowed few visitors, who will have to be approved by the court, and someone will have to shop for him under strict parole conditions the Sunday Mirror can reveal today. He will likely have to do community service and will be required to check in regularly with a mental health professional.
Pistorius is unlikely to be able to leave South Africa as part of his initial supervision, meaning that he will struggle to resume his athletics career straight away.

At the time of Pistorius’s parole hearing, Ms Steenkamp’s parents, June and Barry Steenkamp, condemned the decision to release the athlete so early in his sentence.
He was cleared of murder but found guilty of culpable homicide last year in a highly-publicised trial.
They said: “We do not seek to avenge her death and we do not want Mr Pistorius to suffer; that will not bring her back to us”. If released some suggest it sends the wrong message to others since Oscar Pistorius is considered a role model.

In November, prosecutors will try to convince a judge to change the conviction to murder, which could result in a 15-year prison term for the Paralympian.
