2 police, bystander, suspect wounded in Copenhagen shootout

The shooting took place in Copenhagen’s neighborhood of Christiania, The Sun newspaper said on Thursday.

A police officer is “in mortal danger” and is now lying on the operating table after being shot in the head during a raid in Christiania – a self-proclaimed autonomous region.

Witnesses reported hearing up to nine shots being fired during the incident near Fredens Ark (Peace Arch), the largest building in Christiania.

A huge number of police have been deployed to catch the gunman – who is still at large.

Locals are being told to stay away.

One of the wounded police officers is in grave condition, according to the media.

“In connection with last night’s shootings in Christiania, in which two policemen and a civilian were hit, the night’s investigation led us to an address in Kastrup where the wanted suspect was hiding”, the City Police revealed, according to Ekstra Bladet tabloid.

In an emergency press conference Copenhagen Police Commissioner Throkild Fodge said “We know who you are”.

“This is very serious”.

“He is in mortal danger”.

Christiania is a self-proclaimedautonomous “Freetown” – where hippies live by their own rules.

Københavns Politi tweeted an hour ago that there was a police shooting.

In February 2015, two men, one of whom had pledged “allegiance” to ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, killed two people at a free speech forum.
