100 million people now play Solitaire on Windows

With some rough calculations based on Microsoft’s “350 million” figure for Windows 10 and data supplied by NetMarketShare, it can be estimated that the total number of Windows 10 and Windows 8 users is around 370 million people.

Microsoft’s Solitaire Collection, a modern interpretation of the famous Solitaire game, has reached 100 million players around the globe, just ahead of the expected launch on Android and iOS that’s likely to take place in the coming months. Solitaire remains one of the most played games of all time across every released version of Windows.

If you’re a Halo fan that has yet to make the jump to next generation consoles, the US Microsoft is now offering a very interesting Xbox One S Bundle including all the Halo games, a $50 Microsoft Store gift code and more.

Windows 10 users get something this fall, too.

Microsoft Solitaire Collection isn’t the Solitaire you remember from past incarnations of Windows. The numbers translate to 20 billion games per year, 2.29 million each hour and 38,194 each minute. Diablo III has sold 12 million copies, World of Warcraft 14 million and Minecraft 24 million. A tournament was held by Microsoft to celebrate the game’s 25th anniversary previous year.

The announcement coincided with the revelation that the Windows 10 version of the game will be updated later this year with an Events mode, which will allow players to compete against their friends and the community for daily rewards. It’ll be possible to build a lasting Solitaire “legacy” based on success in competitive events. This fall, it will debut the app on Android and iOS devices. The app now has five different modes, Klondike, Spider, FreeCell, Pyramid and Tripeaks.

On average, more than 54 million Microsoft Solitaire Collection games are played per day. Those are some enviable numbers for any casual game, even after 26 years. On top of that, through the game’s Xbox Live Achievements, players have earned more than 1.3 billion Gamerscore.
