Microsoft fixes Windows 10’s Anniversary Update freezing

The software giant released a new build of Windows 10 testers on Wednesday, August 31 with very few visible additions, but Windows enthusiasts have already started picking it apart for clues on new features.

One of the things they’re working on is a tweak to its Delivery Optimization feature that allows users to grab updates from other PCs on the same local network.

For those still running the Anniversary Update and experiencing this bugbear, check for the update and apply it – but if you’re stuck, and perhaps hit by the freezing problem when trying to update, Microsoft provides instructions on how to proceed in the Answers.com post.

Right now, the feature is only available to members of the Windows Insider Program’s Fast ring, but the system will likely roll out to PCs on the Slow ring of the Windows 10 beta soon. Well, Insider Preview Build 14915 is all about the Improving app and update downloads with Delivery Optimization.

Microsoft has rolled out a fix a Windows 10 Anniversary Update bug that has been causing users to experience random freezes.

Microsoft claims to have experienced a reduction in network consumption of between 30 and 50 per cent on networks where PCs have been keeping up to date with preview builds and apps from its own online Store. To check your settings for Delivery Optimization, go to Settings Update & security Windows Update Advanced options and choosing “Choose how updates are delivered”. It has been made possible as Delivery Optimization breaks down the download into small chunks and uses what is assessed as the fastest, most reliable source to download each chunk.

The Windows 10 Mobile build also includes a bunch of improvements and fixes, but Microsoft has yet to openly discuss its plans for the future of the platform. Others only had minor issues that were quickly fixed with smaller updates.

We fixed an issue for Continuum-capable devices that could result in being temporarily unable to connect to a previously paired Windows 10 PC.

Tap on Windows-I to open the Settings application. The update in question is officially known as KB3176938, and it brings the Windows 10 build number to 14393.105.

We fixed an issue where if a Chinese Input Method Editor is active it could result in logging in to not succeed after device goes into and is woken up from Connected Standby.

We have updated “You need to fix your MSA” notification toast logic, so it will no longer notify you multiple times in quick succession. As the company promised, there still isn’t much in terms of new front-facing features. The problem with Adobe programs still continues, as the Acrobat Reader crashes when you try to launch it. After a reboot, Bash should work again.
