Brothers charged for fatal shooting of Dwyane Wade’s cousin

Chicago police on Sunday said they have arrested two brothers and charged them with the fatal shooting of basketball star Dwyane Wade’s cousin as she pushed a baby in a stroller, a murder that has stunned a city plagued by a surge in gang-related violence.

Police reports say the Sorrells were attempting to shoot another person, but the bullet struck Aldridge, who was pushing a child in a stroller on the sidewalk.

Family spokesman Pastor Edward Jones told NBC Chicago that Aldridge was just looking for a better life.

“We keep coming upon the same facts – repeat gun offenders, who continually run in and out of the criminal justice system with no consequences, who are back on the streets wreaking havoc”, Emanuel said in a Monday press conference.

IN governor Mike Pence sidestepped questions on Sunday morning on CNN’s State of the Union show about the flow of guns into IL from his state, as the USA presidential campaign delves into the issue of Chicago violence.

“It’s deep-rooted. This is something that didn’t start today, this is something that isn’t going to end tomorrow, this is something. hopefully, eventually we can stop it”, he said.

A tweet from her National Basketball Association star cousin Dwyane Wade came shortly after, honoring and paying his respects to the family member he had so suddenly lost.

Gun violence is widespread in Chicago, and it appears to be growing.

“Unreal. RIP Nykea Aldridge…”, Wade tweeted. “We’re going to try to help these people to transform their minds and give them a different direction”. Aldridge’s mother said Nykea is the second child she has lost to gun violence. His nephew, Darin Johnson, was shot twice in the leg in 2012 but recovered.

Chicago’s violence is a focus of this year’s presidential race, with Republican nominee Donald Trump routinely bringing up the city’s violence in an effort to paint himself as a “law and order” candidate.
