Model S reaches battery limit
Tesla Motors has announced a new 100kWh battery module that will help the Model S P100D hit 60 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds. According to the company, the Model X P100D with Ludicrous mode accelerates to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds (again using max power mode and the Motor Trend benchmark) and travels up to 289 miles EPA estimated and 542 km European Union on a single charge.

However numbers one and two on the list are the LaFerrari and Porsche 918 Spyder, both limited editions long sold out.
The upgrade will also allow the Model S P100D Ludicrous to accelerate from zero to 60 miles per hour in 2.5 seconds flat, making it the third fastest production vehicle in the world and the fastest production auto you can actually buy.
The battery is available as well for Ludicrous owners as an upgrade in the P90 for both models as just $20,000 along with those customers that have ordered a P90 D for only $10,000.
The new 100-kilowatt-hour battery pack means the high-end version of the Model S sedan, called the P100D, will be the world’s quickest accelerating vehicle in production, the automaker said. Tesla’s Model S P100D starts at $134,500, and the Model X opens at $135,500.
The other model that is being released in Model X P100D. The fastest production auto now on sale is the McLaren F1, which hits the 60mph mark in 3.2 seconds.
Tesla Motors Inc. on Tuesday announced it will sell a battery capable of taking an electric car 315 miles on a charge, the first time an auto maker is providing that much electric range in a vehicle, the company said.
The Model X P1000D Ludicrous is not far behind either.
The models S and X will periodically receive over the air updates which will make them safer. But keeping in mind the fact that both of these limited production hypercars are already sold out, the Model S can indeed be termed as the fastest production vehicle now on sale.

The Model 3 is smaller and more affordable vehicle that now is in the development stage. “Without customers willing to buy the expensive Model S and X, we would be unable to fund the smaller, more affordable Model 3 development”, the company wrote in its post. Rated at 613km on the European Union cycle, Tesla says it becomes the longest range EV production vehicle in the world.
