Jarryd Hayne feels like a huge weight has been lifted off him as he staked a strong claim for a place in the San Francisco 49ers’ final roster with an incredible NFL pre-season debut.

AS the former NRL star continues his push towards achieving an NFL dream, San Francisco 49ers offensive co-ordinator Geep Chryst has spoken about the Australian’s steep learning curve and picking up “football” language.

Hayne had five carries for 63 yards and also returned a kickoff 33 yards and two punts for 24 yards.

For Hayne, he made his first impression count.

Early in the second quarter, Hayne took the handoff and proceeded to slice through the Houston defense for a 53-yard run.

After giving up a touchdown drive on theopening series, the 49ers looked ready to go down 14-0 once the Texans reached the 1-yard line, by converting a fourth-and-1 run.

And CSN Bay Area has quoted fellow running back Reggie Bush as saying, “I’m sure he’ll make it, I don’t think there’s any doubt in anybody’s mind he’ll make the roster”.

A lot of people questioned his decision: Why would he give up something he was exceptional at – at age 27 – to try and learn a new game?

“I think he did that because he had confidence that it wasn’t just a fog of bodies and that there’s going to be some contact”.

Scotts, who made the transition from rugby union to NFL in the 1980s, admitted to being “absolutely blown away” by Hayne’s performance for the 49ers in Houston at the weekend.

“And I hope I’m presenting a very tempered approach to what happened tonight with Jarryd”. “We’re thinking those things through”, Tomsula said. “He’s a premier athlete in the world in space”. The thing that excites me is the type of person that he is. “You get into a situation you’re rooting for guys, but it has to happen, and he’s one of those guys”. “The last preseason game we got him a few reps”.

–First-round draft pick Arik Armstead’s first game was a mixed bag at defensive end.

San Francisco’s preseason group now stands at 90 players. But he could see action soon. Linebacker Desmond Bishop left Saturday’s game with a calf strain.

– This offseason’s big move was to bring in Torrey Smith as a deep threat, and the 49ers scripted a play early on to try to show off that newfound aspect of their offense.
