It doesn’t look like Tony Romo will be back until November

Considering how disastrous the Dallas Cowboys’ season went previous year after Tony Romo went down with an injury, it is understandable that they want to have him for as many games as possible this season.

Like 31 other teams, the Dallas Cowboys have decisions to make regarding their roster this weekend.

“We’re certainly getting our hands around it, ” executive vice president Stephen Jones said.

Had the prognosis been more optimistic, Dallas could have kept Romo on the active roster in the hopes he heals quickly.

This is the third significant injury he has suffered to his back since the 2013 season and he has not played in the full 16 game regular season schedule since 2012. It’s looking more and more like Dak Prescott is a certainty to start until midseason, at which the Cowboys could have another tough decision to make if Prescott plays well.

Romo was initially expected to miss 6-10 weeks after breaking a bone in his back, but it appears it will be closer to 8-10 weeks.

“So you’ve got to have him through the 53 cut before you can put him on the designated to return

if we wanted to consider that”, said Jones. Or they can just give in and put him on injured reserve and not have him for eight weeks at least. As it stands, Romo could be out closer to eight to 10 weeks rather than the hopeful six-week timetable, according to the Star-Telegram. If the Cowboys aren’t convinced Romo can return October 9 against Cincinnati or that next week against Green Bay it will be hard to justify carrying him on the active roster. “He is undeterred and he really believes that this team does have a different mindset with him not being here and that we can win games and when he does get back, he’s ready to make a run”.

I think the Cowboys would be thrilled if Prescott could go 3-3 until Romo returns to the lineup.
