Luiz has returned to the club he left in 2014 for a fee of £50m and has cost Chelsea £30m to bring back to Stamford Bridge.

LONDON (AP) – English Premier League clubs swelled the bank accounts of continental rivals in a summer of record-breaking spending that ended Wednesday with the biggest shock of the transfer window: David Luiz’s return to Chelsea.

“I’m delighted to return to Chelsea”, Luiz told the Chelsea website after signing a three-year contract on the last day of the two-month window. “I can’t wait to wear the shirt and play in Stamford Bridge again”.

France midfielder Sissoko appeared set for a move to Everton before Spurs nipped in to sign the player, having earlier completed a deal to bring Olympique de Marseille forward Georges-Kevin N’Koudou to White Hart Lane in a five-year deal.

Fees paid by Premier League clubs passed one billion pounds for the first time according to financial analysts Deloitte and reports in Germany said Bundesliga clubs had spent more than 500 million euros, another new record.

Luiz had won the UEFA Champions League with the London club during his first stint.

PSG had previously turned down approaches from Chelsea for both Luiz and his Brazilian team-mate Marquinhos, telling them that neither defender was for sale.

He vowed not to celebrate if he scored against his former club, but did so as PSG advanced on away goals at the expense of Chelsea in March 2015.

Chelsea winger Juan Cuadrado, 28, has rejoined Juventus on a three-year loan deal. It’s a step up in my career and I think this is the ideal place for me to continue developing.

“It was an easy decision for me to make when I heard the club were interested in signing me”.

“Of course I want to win the Premier League and of course I want to win all the titles again”, he added.
