The Hunger Games star made he directorial debut behind the lens for the franchise sequel, but backed out of taking charge of another film, and now Step Up All In’s Trish Sie has been announced as her replacement.
The news was reported by Variety, and it was stated that production should remain on schedule since they were able to close the deal with Sie. Producer and “Pitch Perfect 2” director Elizabeth Banks tweeted the news Thursday.
Jason Moore directed the original film and helped launch the franchise after the $15 million film went on to over-perform at the box office, leading the studio to greenlight a second movie.
In addition to directing the fifth and final Step Up movie, Sie is known for helping create several popular music videos for OK Go, including the treadmill-powered viral hit “Here It Goes Again”. Such a change of heart forced Universal to postpone Pitch Perfect 3 by a full six months, bumping the planned reunion of the Barden Bellas from July 21 to December 22, 2017. The script is by Kay Cannon with Mike White writing the most recent draft.
Banks will also reprise her role as Gail and serve as a producer along with Max Handelman of Brownstone Productions, and Paul Brooks and Scott Niemeyer of Gold Circle Films.
