Frank Kearse, 27, was treated Wednesday at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, then Rhode Island Hospital in Providence for a knife wound to the upper abdomen, according to a police report filed Thursday in Attleboro District Court. She pleaded not guilty and was released on $1,000 bail.

Kearse told hospital officials he was in the process of moving and suffered the injury while moving a cardboard box containing knives.

When pressed by detectives after neighbors told authorities that they heard an argument from the couple’s apartment, Hooper allegedly broke down and admitted to brandishing the weapon, the newspaper reported.

Kearse’s girlfriend, Dominique Hooper, pleaded innocent on charges of assault and battery with a risky weapon and domestic assault and battery.

The knife allegedly went through a cardboard box Kearse held to defend himself and pierced his abdomen, according to the police report.

The police reportedly arrested Hooper after investigating a scene that contained a kitchen knife with apparent dried blood on it.

The Patriots announced Kearse was released on August 24, although the NFL’s transaction wire showed that he was actually placed on injured reserve. The former seventh-round draft pick has been with the Miami Dolphins, Carolina Panthers, Tennessee Titans, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins and the Patriots.
