If the episode titles teased in the clip are any indication, Season 2 will have its fair share of pop culture references as well.

The duo also hinted at possibly slowing things down, a return of most of the core characters and potential explanations for the complicated conspiracy theories merely touched upon in Season 1. At the finale of Season 1, she sacrificed herself to kill the Demogorgon monster and save her friends.

Several weeks after it filled the space that a summer jam song normally does, Netflix has finally made it official and announced that a second season of Stranger Things is going to happen. But Season 2 is sure to be premiered in 2017. The series’ debuted all of the first season’s eight episodes on July 15, 2016, and they are available now for your binge watching delight.

Season 2 will also take you to the upside down world and some characters will return. With Game of Thrones’ latest season having recently come to its conclusion, and the seventh season of The Walking Dead not due to start until October, the Duffer brothers – along with Netflix – have supplied the flawless show to fill the void, matching the aforementioned in both entertainment and quality. And third is Roman, “a gender-neutral 30-something who “suffered a great loss at an early age and has been seeking revenge ever since”.

But for as crystal clear as these names might be to children of the 80’s, younger generations – those who stumbled on the show in their parents’ Netflix queue, perhaps – might have a hard time understanding what all the fuss is about. /Film reader Aaron Morgan points out that Roman could possibly be related to Barb, and we know that season 2 will bring “justice for Barb.”

There’s definitely a handful of really compelling new characters this season, but absolutely servicing the core group first and foremost. Things end up being resolved to some extent at the end of Season 1, but not entirely.

If the gripping plot and relatably flawed characters aren’t enough to make you enjoy Stranger Things, then the soundtrack surely will.
