VMAs RECAP: The Good, The Bad, and The Kanye

After he introduced Rihanna to present her with MTV’s Video Vanguard award, Drake definitely went in for a kiss.

Amid the decline in linear TV performance, MTV is shifting attention to the show’s digital performance. Many viewers believed the choreography of the fallen angels and lighting represented Beyonce’s controversial stance against police brutality. The Adelaide singer had been nominated for Cheap Thrills which she released this year from her seventh studio album, This Is Acting.

Rihanna put on quite the show and performed some of her biggest hits from her entire career.

The video features a scantily-clad Teyana Taylor dancing around in a gym as “Fade” plays in the background.

The R&B superstar was chosen as the recipient of this year’s (16) Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, and her frequent collaborator and rumoured beau Drake was on hand to present her with the prestigious golden Moonman trophy at Sunday’s (28Aug16) ceremony.

The Barbados-born beauty sported a sexy sheer, fringe jumpsuit and hoop earrings while Drake opted for jeans and a black and blue printed jacket, a much more casual look from his dapper award show tuxedo. It’s hard to believe that 11 years later all three of us would come together for a visual for a song called ‘Work.’ Today, the world knows Little X as Director X. They know me as Drake and not the kid singing while you order pasta. “Thank you #VMAs and thank you to my unbelievable fans!”

The audience at Madison Square Garden watched intensely Sunday, at times recording the performance with their phones. He shouted out his ex-girlfriend Amber Rose and his wife Kim Kardashian West’s ex-boyfriend Ray J.

Drake won best hip hop video, for Hotline Bling, but did not collect his trophy on stage because he was stuck in traffic, presenter Sean “Diddy” Combs told the crowd. Her best female video win was for “Hold Up”. Unfortunately, Drake was stuck in traffic and wasn’t available to accept his award. Fetty Wap, All In My Head.

Finally, Jimmy Fallon impersonated swimmer Ryan Lochte, making false claims on his musical accomplishments – a reference to the accusation that Lochte filed a false robbery report while in Rio.
