Android 7.0 Nougat arrives to enrich your smartphone experience; five features

Users of Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C and Android One will soon get an over-the-air software update to take their devices to Android 7.0 Nougat. You’ll find Google’s much-lauded split-screen mode, 72 new emoji, enhanced notifications and improved gaming features thanks to support for the Vulkan API.

So the first phone on Three to get Android Nougat will probably be the LG V20.

To install Nougat, you’ll need to sign up for the Android Beta Program.

Yesterday, the latest and greatest version of Android was officially released, Android 7.0 Nougat. Mid-range to get Android7 are Galaxy J7, J5, A7, A5, A3, A9, A9 Pro and the recently released Galaxy C7 and C5. I’m sure if you’re coming from Marshmallow, however, Nougat’s download size will be significantly bigger.

So far only HTC has confirmed anything, having stated that the HTC 10, HTC One A9, HTC One M9 and unspecified other handsets will be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat later this year.

Two days ago, Google released what seems to be the stable version of Developer Preview 5, with some bug fixes, but it didn’t include some of the most rumored and interesting tools that we were all expecting to see. Basically, your phone should look nicer and not get as hot with heavy use. It will be a while before non-Nexus phone buyers will be able to experience the Android 7.0 Nougat.

This certainly appears to be the fastest way to push the update to your device.

If history has taught us anything – and it has – Android Nougat will become the most popular version of Android sometime in 2018.

Following are the direct download links of Android 7.0 Nougat for Nexus devices. The updated OS will also introduce multi-window viewing, a slew of new emojis, file-based encryption and support for Google’s mobile virtual reality platform Daydream. You can also reply directly from notifications, something that iOS has actually had for longer than Android. Then you’ll have to wait for the update to arrive OTA.
