Dismissal time and ELC extended day services will not be affected, according to school district spokeswoman Sherri Owens.

Peak storm surge near and just east of where Hermine’s center makes landfall tonight will be as high as 6-9ft above ground level on the coast.

A hurricane warning is in place for parts of northern Florida, after tropical storm Hermine strengthened overnight. Winds are sustained at 75 with gusts to 95 miles per hour. Some strengthening was forecast.

Southern states felt the effects of Hermine on Thursday, dealing with flooding and high winds as the storm moved north-northeast.

It would be the state’s first hit from a hurricane since Wilma in October 2005, a record storm-free streak.

Two Florida counties – Franklin and Wakulla – have already issued evacuation notices, according to the Tallahassee Democrat. Residents in other low-lying areas that are prone to flooding are also being asked to evacuate.

If Hurricane Hermine makes landfall with wind speeds topping 74 miles per hour, as it is expected to, it will become the first hurricane to make landfall in Florida in almost 11 years, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

Gov. Scott also directed all state offices in 51 counties to close at noon today in preparation for Hurricane Hermine.

TORNADOES: There is a threat for isolated tornadoes in Southeast GA Thursday night – Friday morning and into the eastern South Carolina Friday morning-Friday night.

“While the exact track and strength of Tropical Storm Hermine are still uncertain, there is the potential for heavy rain and flash flooding across portions of central N.C. late Friday through early Saturday. Hermine is a rather asymmetric storm, with a large extent of unsafe winds, life-threatening storm surge, and flooding rains well to the east and southeast of the center”.
