Samsung updates smartwatch with GPS, emergency feature
Samsung’s new smartwatch will be available in two versions: an outdoor version called Gear S3 Frontier, and a Classic version that looks like a conventional watch. Waterproof protection is provided together with the Gear S3, since the smartwatch comes with IP68 certification, however the smartwatch isn’t recommended for swimming and diving.

There is now no word on the pricing and availability of the Gear S3 smartwatch, but we can expect Samsung to make regional announcements in the near future.
The Samsung Gear S3 Classic does not differ that much physically with the Gear S3 Frontier; but compared to the S2, it is a lot bulkier with its 46 mm casings while its predecessor had a 42 mm casing. Samsung’s newest wearable device comes in two varieties – a “Classic” model with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and “Frontier” model that features LTE support. The Samsung Gear S3 has been announced before Apple’s much awaited event and the company has stolen a march on the Apple Watch, as it will also be able to connect to iPhones, which is incredible.
The Samsung Gear S3 features a 1.3-inch super AMOLED full circular display with a 360×360 resolution (278 dpi), which supports a variety of watch faces. The decline was mainly because of weaker sales of Apple’s watch.
Samsung has been an industry pioneer with smartwatches, making its first release in 2013. Both have the latest technology and new trackers. Samsung said prices will be announced closer to the devices’ availability later in the year. So Samsung increased the size of the battery from 250 milliamps in the Gear S2 to 380 milliamps in the Gear S3. It is observed that Apple smart watch 2 may launch in 2017 with its own cellular ratio. In the S2, Global Positioning System was limited to a pricier model with cellular capabilities (on the slower 3G network).
Samsung really left no stones unturned here, and even standardized its watch strap to 22mm allowing for greater interchangeability of non smartwatch watch bands. And the watch’s always-on feature improves with a display of millions of colors, rather than just 16 before.
Another cool an unique feature is the smartwatch’s ability to notify friends and family of an emergency with its new SOS feature.

The Gear S3 supports Samsung Pay via NFC and MST (magnetic secure transmission), the latter providing compatibility with older-style mag-stripe terminals.
