Battlefield 1 Beta: Only A Week

Players of a new beta of the video game Battlefield 1 saw their activity disrupted after a suspected distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack hit the servers of games company Electronic Arts (EA).

Battlefield 1’s open beta launched yesterday, although many players have been left unable to connect to the game’s servers. “We’re working to resolve as fast as possible”, the company tweeted from its official EA Support account on Twitter.

KitGuru Says: DDOS attacks on gaming services seem to have become more and more common following on from the Christmas attacks on PSN and Xbox Live.

This was quite a serious matter, as the game is an online-only multiplayer beta and no server connection implies zero play time, to the dismay of gamers everywhere.

PoodleCorp claims that it has previously launched similar attacks on Grand Theft Auto servers, as well as Blizzard’s Battle.net at the start of August and the Pokémon Go servers back in July.

We are now monitoring a DDOS attack against network providers which is affecting latency/connections to our games. The reason for this might be the wide pool of users who simultaneously logged in, although speculations loomed that hacker hands were involved in EA servers crashing.
