Note 7 recall expected soon

Samsung did not elaborate on what required the company to decide to conduct additional tests for quality control, but for those who have been following the recent news on the Galaxy Note 7, it would be a sound assumption to link the delayed shipments to the reports of exploding batteries for the device.

Samsung said the delay affects only the South Korean market. Several outlets are reporting Samsung plans to recall the phones to replace the batteries rather than providing complainants with entirely new phones.

The company said it is investigating the reports of phones catching fire and exploding. Both ZDNet and the Korea Herald are reporting about the possibility of a recall, though the Korea Herald doesn’t cite any specific sources.

It is unusual for Samsung to confirm a delay in sales of a device.

His remarks suggested that Samsung may recall all of the Galaxy Note 7 phablets sold at home and overseas. When it comes to exploding batteries, news like this always comes out when a new smartphone is released. The Reuters report, however, doesn’t mention what the quality issues are.

The Note7 is still listed for sale on the websites of all of the Big Four U.S. carriers, and each of them except for Sprint says new Note7 orders should ship within a week.

Samsung has acknowledged the reports, with a representative telling The Korea Times, “We have acquired the handsets, which our customers say burst into flames while charging, to identify the reason”.

Using third-party USB Type-C cables to charge the Galaxy Note 7 could definitely be causing the explosions, but Samsung understandably is not taking any risks and has chose to test the smartphone anew. The user claimed that the Galaxy Note 7 exploded while it was charging.

Even before the issue of battery explosions emerged, supplies were not keeping up with higher-than-expected demand for the smartphone.
