Showing that he still has speed to burn at age 32, Upton took advantage of a couple of misplays by Twins’ right-fielder Max Kepler.

The Blue Jays trailed 7-6 in the eighth when Kevin Pillar doubled with one out off Ryan Pressly (6-6).

TORONTO-B.J. Upton saw Max Kepler dive for his sinking drive in the eighth inning and when the ball skipped past the right fielder he was thinking triple.

Dozier scored in the first inning on a wild pitch by Stroman, generating the run basically on his own. But Toronto kept chipping away.

On Baseball Canada Day, Donaldson led the Blue Jays to a 9-6 victory over the Twins, who lost their 10 straight game.

WHITE SOX 4, MARINERS 1: Carlos Rodon pitched into the seventh inning, Justin Morneau had a two-run single and Melky Cabrera drove in a run and scored twice to lead host Chicago over Seattle. “He’s dynamic out there and we’re excited to have him”. He’s been pretty much shutout. “Eddie was on deck after I hit the third one and he had a huge smile on his face, that kind of brought it into reality a little bit there”.

“It doesn’t get any better than that”, manager John Gibbons said. “You don’t know it it’s ever going to happen, it’s kind of a rare thing (and) I was happy to do it”. He does energize guys.

Jason Grilli (5-3) worked one inning for the win and Roberto Osuna finished for his 29th save.

For Stroman, it was a frustrating outing.

“He’s dynamic out there and we’re excited to have him”, Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman said.

“I made three mistakes”, Kepler said. “Though it’s extremely frustrating while you’re out there because you’re doing everything in your power to keep your team in the game”. The Twins battled back for two in the top of the seventh to put the deficit back at four.

Minnesota starter Kyle Gibson threw 5 1/3 innings allowing four runs and eight hits.

Bo Schultz allowed a walk and Plouffe’s ninth home run of the season in the seventh as the Twins bumped their lead to 7-3.

“It was a much-needed win”, said the manager. “We’ve got to stay in the fight”. We’ve seen him steal bases; he’s one of those guys that can go first to third just about every time.

“A win like that can get some good things going for us”, Grilli said.

Donaldson’s fourth multi-homer game this season and the 10th of his career also marked the 17th three-homer game in the majors this season. He also had a single and a walk. The next batter, third baseman Trevor Plouffe, smacked a single to left to score Brian Dozier.

Leading off the sixth, Tulowitzki hammered an 89 miles per hour two-seam fastball from Gibson just over the wall in deep centre to pull the Jays to within two. The defending champion Royals mashed the ball to a line of.325/.392/.485 after the sixth inning in 16 total playoff games previous year. But he’s helped me out a lot.

The Twins will not only be trying to avoid the sweep on Sunday but trying to end a losing streak that has reached nine games.

“We’re confident, we’ve been the same way, to be honest with you, since spring training, since a year ago”, said Stroman. “I tried to enjoy it for a second”.
