Two gang members charged in murder of Dwyane Wade’s cousin
Two weeks before police say Derren Sorrells and his brother murdered basketball star Dwyane Wade’s cousin in Chicago on Friday, he walked out of a state prison after serving less than four years of a six-year sentence for possessing a stolen auto.

Chicago police charged 22-year-old Derren Sorells and 26-year-old Darwin Sorells overnight on Saturday, CPD communications director Anthony Guglielmi announced on Saturday morning. She was on her way home Friday from registering one of her four children for school, pushing a stroller with her one-month-old baby along a sidewalk on Chicago’s South Side, when she took her last step.
As for Darwin Sorrels, who police say was a co-conspirator in the crime, he was also on parole for a previous gun charge after being released in February three years into a six-year sentence.
A visibly angry Eddie Johnson, the city’s police superintendent, said the case underscored the need to keep violent criminals behind bars longer. Brendan Deenihan said at a news conference Sunday, but rather a driver who had just dropped off passengers in the neighborhood.
Wade, who grew up on the city’s South Side, has been outspoken over the years about the violence in his hometown.
Nykea Aldridge’s famous relative, who grew up in Chicago’s south suburbs, tweeted to his almost 6 million followers about her death, saying Friday it was an “act of senseless gun violence” and posting Saturday morning that Chicago needs “more help& more hands on deck”.

He and his mother, Jolinda Wade, a Chicago pastor, also participated in an ESPN discussion on gun violence in America that was recorded at a YMCA in Chicago.
Speaking on ‘Anderson Cooper 360’, Lee said: “He should be giving condolences to the Wade family from the first tweet”. Not for me and my family but for the future of the world.
He added in a following tweet: “These young kids are screaming for help!” The NBA star’s nephew Darin Johnson was shot twice in the leg in 2012, but recovered.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said that much change.
Aldridge’s death came just hours after cousin Wade spoke out about the violence gripping Chicago on Twitter, calling for it to stop. “Just what I’ve been saying”.
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump weighed in Saturday, claiming the killing of Wade’s cousin is a reason why African-American voters will back his candidacy. After news of his cousin’s death, he labeled the incident “senseless”. “It isn’t noteworthy because [Aldridge has a] famous family member”, he said, referring to Wade.
There was raw emotion as the slain cousin of National Basketball Association superstar Dwyane Wade was honored by her grieving family at a vigil Sunday. “She loved God, loved her family, ‘ Jones said”.
“This is something that didn’t start today; this is something that isn’t going to end tomorrow”, he said. “They are in my thoughts and prayers”, though Twitter users weren’t buying his belated sentiments. “We’re going to try to help these people to transform their minds and give them a different direction”.
