The Cowboys received bad news Saturday, as head coach Jason Garrett said an MRI on Romo’s back revealed a fractured bone. He could be out for 6-10 weeks, which could leave Prescott as the team’s No. 1 quarterback for the first part of the season.

The Cowboys are likely looking for a quarterback with experience that can help them win games until Romo returns and might be willing to give up more than they were a month ago.
Prescott’s preseason play has even caught the attention of his teammates.
The former Mississippi State standout has a preseason passer rating of 137.8, completing 39 of 50 passes for 454 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions.
He immediately grabbed at his back, crumpled on the field while trainers sprinted from the Dallas sideline and images of Romo’s injury problems from previous year immediately flashed to mind.
Through three preseason games, Griffin has displayed that he can run the offense efficiently, and he has taken some hits and has been able get back up.
The Cowboys open the season with a pair of division games.
“It’s not related to the other back issues that he’s had”, Garrett said. “Tony has a broken bone in his back”.
While it is too early to tell how this promising quarterback will perform with all this pressure on him, he does bring a ray of hope into the darkness felt by Dallas fans after hearing Romo’s out of the game for an extended amount of time.
Rookie fourth-round pick Dak Prescott likely will start the regular-season opener against the New York Giants on September 11 if Romo is ruled out. “Dallas is still overall a good team and it’s a division game”. You have to think the Giants would take their chances with their revamped defense against a rookie making his first career start, especially given the fact Romo has been one of their chief tormentors over the years.
