And just because Siemian will make his second consecutive start does not mean the second-year quarterback necessarily has the lead in the competition.

The Niners played impressive defense of their own against former Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler and will be out to produce a similar performance to keep Trevor Siemian at bay.
What Lynch needs over the next two weeks is more reps with the first-team offense. Kubiak said he expects Siemian to practice Tuesday.

Kubiak said after that Lynch has “always been in the mix” for the starting job. I’m going to see how much I’m going to play our starters in the game. Trevor also committed the cardinal sin of this preseason and threw a pick-six.
All along, I’ve had the feeling that Kubiak felt a bit better with Sanchez in the game than Siemian.
Gabbert started half of the games in 2015, tossing for over 2,000 yards with ten touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Now, however, Gabbert has emerged as the favorite to start for the 49ers, something that no one would have predicted this time past year.
Ponder was signed earlier in the week to bolster the team’s depth at quarterback. Anthony Davis played well into the fourth quarter at right guard, a new position for him.
Sanchez didn’t throw a pick like Siemian did but a turnover is a turnover and he had two of them. Despite evidence to the contrary, our models still now expect Sanchez to earn the starting gig for the Broncos this season, with Lynch serving as his backup.
