Colin Kaepernick explains why he wore socks with police pigs on them

While the debates surrounding that decision are still going strong, photos of Kaepernick wearing socks depicting police officers as pigs during a practice several weeks ago began circulating Thursday.

While Kaepernick sported the socks as early as August 10, they went mostly unnoticed until this week.

Kaepernick, who led San Francisco to the 2013 Super Bowl but has since been demoted to backup, has said he would not show pride in the flag of a country that oppresses people of colour, citing police brutality. Cops are getting paid leave for killing people.

On the other hand, if Kaepernick stood – feeling forced to do so – even though he wanted to sit and protest the anthem, that could also be seen as an insult to the freedom of choice.

The San Francisco quarterback has consistently made headlines since his initial protest.

Oh, by the way, Kaepernick did stand during a rendition of “God Bless America” before the start of the fourth quarter and clapped afterward. I have two uncles and friends who are police officers and work to protect to serve ALL people. I think if you really thought about issues and this country, you’d do it differently, and when I heard him explain his rationale, didn’t really make that much sense to me.

Johnson’s comments come just three days after San Francisco’s police union head called Kaepernick a “great disappointment”.

“A city like San Diego is too patriotic”, said Hunter, adding that he believes Kaepernick would be out of a job if he played for the Chargers. Boyer has been one of the most prominent military veterans to publicly support Kaepernick’s right to protest, though he said he doesn’t necessarily agree with the message it sends.

When asked about Kaepernick not standing for the national anthem, Kelly said he did not ask his about his intention for it.

Those who don’t stand up for Kaepernick’s right to sit are the only ones guilty of being un-American here.

The 49ers haven’t directly addressed Kaepernick’s activism, but did release the following statement after last Friday’s game.
