Maine governor: I may resign after GOP abandoned me
Rep. Fredette said that he believes the governor’s private meeting with GOP leaders Monday night, as well as his apology on WVOM-FM radio Tuesday morning, were both steps in what he said is an apology and recovery process that will take the rest of the governor’s term in office.

“I’m looking at all options”, LePage said on talk radio station WVOM.
However, the governor later tweeted that “regarding rumors of resignation, to paraphrase Mark Twain: “The reports of my political demise are greatly exaggerated”.
House Majority Leader Jeff McCabe, a Democrat, said that LePage has crossed a line but that he and other lawmakers may reconsider their calls for resignation if the governor agrees to seek professional help and outlines a treatment plan.
“I’ve never met a person who’s been ideal and not made a mistake”, LePage said. LePage said he was upset that Gattine insinuated he’s a racist.
Westbrook is the home of Drew Gattine (gah-TEEN’). Sarah Palin chose to resign in 2009 during her first term as governor of Alaska to pursue a career in the private sector.
Former council chairman Fred Stubbert, also a Democrat, said people opposing LePage are “overemphasizing this. I’m not saying that I am going to finish it”.
“I will not resign”, LePage told reporters in his office in the state capital of Augusta, a day after he openly discussed the possibility of resigning in a radio appearance.
LePage endorsed Trump’s run in February, shortly after New Jersey Governor Chris Christie. LePage also mentioned Waterbury, Connecticut, and the NY city boroughs of the Bronx and Brooklyn. “It just absolutely knocked me off my feet”.
A year later, LePage said that NAACP officials, who had called him out for not attending a Martin Luther King Jr.’s event, could “kiss my butt”. And on Monday he deepened his commitment to statements that linked blacks and Hispanics to the drug epidemic in his state.
The voicemail ended with LePage urging Gattine to share it widely “because I am after you”.
The uncommon rebuff of a sitting governor comes while LePage is mired in the controversy that began last Wednesday by his latest racially charged comments about Maine’s drug epidemic.
Material from the Associated Press and the State House News Service was used in this report.
LePage won election twice in multi-candidate fields because he attracted a loyal group of conservative voters who hate political correctness, and see LePage as their only hope for real representation, warts and all. “LePage should listen to the experts and note that to successfully address the problem, it must deal with supply, demand, and education across all borders”, Laplante said.
Last week, LePage exacerbated the situation when he said that he was in possession of binders full of pictures of convicted dealers and that the dealers were overwhelmingly black and Hispanic, adding that they were “the enemy”-a comment that seemed to suggest that all blacks and Hispanics were the enemy”. “It made me enormously angry when a TV reporter asked me for my reaction about Gattine calling me a racist. It’s one thing to have one party behind (you), it’s another thing to not have any party behind you”, he added.

“These figures are shocking”, Maine Attorney General Janet Mills said in March, noting that for the first time past year, overdoses from illegal drugs in the state exceeded those from pharmaceutical opioids.
