Rep. Fredette said that he believes the governor’s private meeting with GOP leaders Monday night, as well as his apology on WVOM-FM radio Tuesday morning, were both steps in what he said is an apology and recovery process that will take the rest of the governor’s term in office.

“I’m looking at all options”, LePage said on talk radio station WVOM.
However, the governor later tweeted that “regarding rumors of resignation, to paraphrase Mark Twain: “The reports of my political demise are greatly exaggerated”.
House Majority Leader Jeff McCabe, a Democrat, said that LePage has crossed a line but that he and other lawmakers may reconsider their calls for resignation if the governor agrees to seek professional help and outlines a treatment plan.

Former council chairman Fred Stubbert, also a Democrat, said people opposing LePage are “overemphasizing this. I’m not saying that I am going to finish it”.
“I will not resign”, LePage told reporters in his office in the state capital of Augusta, a day after he openly discussed the possibility of resigning in a radio appearance.

The uncommon rebuff of a sitting governor comes while LePage is mired in the controversy that began last Wednesday by his latest racially charged comments about Maine’s drug epidemic.
