Sarfraz to lead Pakistan against England in T20

England have named a full-strength squad for the lone Twenty20 worldwide against Pakistan which will be played at Old Trafford on 7th September.

The squad, skippered by first-time captain Sarfraz Ahmed, also sees a recall for left-arm seamer Sohail Tanvir following his productive return in the Caribbean Premier League – 20 wickets from 12 games at 14.85 – while Umar Akmal and Ahmed Shehzad continue to be left-out on disciplinary grounds.

Pakistan Chief Selector Inzamamul Haq, in consultation with the National Selection Committee and team management, has finalised the 13-member team for the one-off T20I against England.

“I said this before that since there is only one match we will not consider Afridi, but once he gives a performance at a domestic level he will be given a chance”, Inzamam told AFP.

The selectors have retained 10 cricketers who are now playing in the one-day series in England.

The 25-year-old has not played T20 global cricket since the West Indies’ Carlos Brathwaite smashed him for four successive sixes in the final over of April’s World Cup final to seal an unlikely victory for the Caribbean side.

There was a recall for left-arm paceman Sohail Tanveer who last played a Twenty20 against England in November a year ago.

From the one-day squad now playing in England, Sami Aslam, Yasir Shah, Umar Gul, Hasan Ali and ODI captain Azhar Ali are not included. Their poor performance in this ODI series is surprising considering their form in the Test series, which they drew 2-2.
