Rubio, Murphy to debate October 26 at Broward College
Rubio beat millionaire developer Carlos Beruff, the only major GOP candidate to stay in the race after Rubio made a decision to run for re-election two days before the deadline to make the ballot.

McCain will face Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick, his most formidable Democratic opponent in years, while Rubio faces Rep. Patrick Murphy, a former Republican who won his primary against unpredictable liberal firebrand Rep. Alan Grayson. As Donald Trump’s polls numbers continue to slide, Murphy’s strategy has been to tie Rubio to the Republican presidential nominee. Tim Canova saw a boost in support and financial help leading up to the primaries as Wasserman-Schultz found herself embroiled in a scandal over how she handled the Democratic National Committee. “As you know, after my race ended in March for the presidency I was prepared to become a private citizen”, Rubio told supporters after the result. Instead, Murphy has aimed attacks on Rubio, reminding voters that the incumbent vowed earlier this year he would not seek reelection. If elected, this would be Rubio’s second term. The Jupiter congressman from Florida’s 18th District was confident enough in his eventual victory over Alan Grayson that he chose to stop running advertisements in Florida on August 19 in order to save money and focus on his battle with Marco Rubio in November, according to the Miami Herald.
Many like Cynthia Wallace hoped Rubio would have been the Republican presidential nominee. Murphy said Grayson’s “words and actions have disqualified him from public service”. “I hope you accept this offer and I look forward to your response”. Then he issued a challenge of his own: “Commit to serving a six-year term”.
But the candidate’s mom and other supporters said they believe Wasserman Schultz will be victorious in November because of her perseverance, experience and 11 years of dedication to South Florida residents.
Adding to the intrigue is that the fates of the two senators will likely play a big role in whether Republicans can upset expectations and maintain majority control of the Senate after November’s election.
Rubio brings instant star power that the five Republicans who initially sought to replace him lacked.
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., again won his party’s nomination in the key Florida Senate race. Additionally, Rubio’s run for the White House this year has already raised questions about whether he is seeking re-election mostly so he continues to have a political voice heading into the 2020 elections.
Florida is a competitive presidential race, with an edge to Clinton, but Rubio’s candidacy gave Republicans a shot in the arm to hold that Senate seat. Gillett said both victims were taken to a nearby hospital and were in stable condition. He is seen as a Democrat who appeals to moderate Republicans and Independents.

Despite all that, the Democratic establishment worked for Murphy over Grayson. “David Jolly went back to running for Congress, Ron DeSantis went back to running for Congress, and Carlos Lopez-Cantera went back to doing whatever it is that he does, which is basically nothing except collect a check from the Florida taxpayers”.
