Kanye West’s “Famous” Sculpture Could Be Yours for $4 Million

Kardashian and her sister Kendall Jenner visited the exhibition on Friday (26Aug16), and Kanye’s proud wife took to Twitter to share a shot of herself standing in front of the waxwork figures with Kanye smiling on a TV screen next to her. It is not even for sale right now.

Perhaps it was a misunderstanding between reporter and subject: When the New York Times reporter ran the supposed $4 million price tag by gallery co-founder Tim Blum, he called it “a good ballpark”. Aaron Axelrod, an artist who did not work on the piece said, “I did the math in my head, and it took $500,000 to a million just to make it”.

“Long story short. We made it happen”. “The show and project were not done with price or sale in mind”.

The Times also reports that a member of West’s said that the piece was “on its way to its next location”, though it wasn’t specified where.

“To be honest, we did it for the sake of doing it”, Mr. Blum continued.

Beyond the concept, it’s worth considering how much of West’s hand was actually involved in the ordeal, and if that even matters in today’s contemporary art world.

Citing a source close to Mr. The New York Times also reported that there was a possibility that the sculpture would go on tour and be displayed in multiple cities. “We’ll see what comes next”.

When Kanye West dropped his controversial video for “Famous”, the biggest question of the hour was what exactly we were seeing in the clip.

The sculpture, inspired by painter Vincent Desiderio’s 2008 piece “Sleep” – which itself was based on Jackson Pollock’s “Mural” painting – features super-realistic-looking silicone figures in deep slumber, their breath rising and falling.

Taylor Swift, who swiftly melts the whole thing, turning the sculpture into hundreds of candles with quaint smells like vanilla latte, freshly washed linen and the blood of her enemies.
