Trump proposals ‘a real threat’ for Mexico — Pena Nieto

Trump has called immigrants crossing from Mexico criminals, drug-runners and “rapists”, and vows to wall off the frontier and force Mexico to pay for it.

Things that Trump has been proposing, like payment for the wall, renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement and stopping American business from going to Mexico, should have been raised in a “respectful” fashion with Pena Nieto, he added.

“We did discuss the wall”. That’ll be for a later date.

It all started yesterday during the pair’s dual media appearance in which Trump’s remarks on Mexico and immigration sounded unlike anything we’ve heard from him during this campaign.

Donald Trump’s immigration proposals outlined during an evening rally Wednesday shocked some Hispanic leaders his campaign was courting, and may have narrowed the Republican presidential nominee’s path to victory in November. “Cooperation toward achieving the shared objective to both the United States and to Mexico”, he said.

Donald Trump’s pledge to make Mexico pay for a border wall is “outrageous”, its government says, one day after the Republican presidential candidate visited Mexico City for talks with President Enrique Pena Nieto.

“This is an insult and a betrayal”, said artist Arturo Meade as he joined aprotest against Wednesday’s meeting in Mexico City.

A wall already exists along part of the U.S. -Mexico border and private military contractors have been the leading recipients of billions of dollars in federal funds to supply so-called “smart border” electronic surveillance infrastructure and equipment.

Immediately following the meeting, even Trump critics conceded that Trump had pulled off his first attempt at foreign diplomacy.

Trump’s insistence that Mexico would pay for his proposed wall has been a signature of his campaign since it began past year.
