The galactic-themed handheld was announced today via Twitter, with Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime saying that they’ve already been shipped and should arrive on store shelves this week. And while its smaller sibling, the New Nintendo 3DS offers changeable faceplates, the New Nintendo 3DS XL is stuck with whatever color you buy it in.
With Nintendo’s March 2017 console expected to converge its home and portable console expertise, dovetailing the Wii and DS legacies, what better way to keep the existing 3DS’s fortunes flying than a new galactic look?
Nintendo of America has made a surprise announcement, in revealing that a Galaxy Style New Nintendo 3DS XL has become available at retail this week.

As of now, we’re unsure what exactly the galaxy theme is meant to tie into. Fans have been clamoring for a third entry in the series for quite some time, though we doubt it would appear on the Nintendo 3DS.
