David Luiz returns to Chelsea

The 25-year-old was a deadline day signing for manager Antonio Conte together with David Luiz.

The figure involved in the Alonso deal is undisclosed.

PSG paid a reported 50 million pounds ($65.59 million), a world record fee for a defender, when Luiz moved to Chelsea in June 2014.

At the end of the negotiations, the Blues had to part with a reported £38m to reacquire their man.

Luiz has helped Paris Saint-Germain to win two Ligue 1 titles during his time in the French capital, but it’s fair to say that he didn’t convince everybody despite keeping fellow Brazilian Marquinhos out of the side.

“It’s been the most hard transfer window anybody can remember – there’s kind of a wall of money”, Parish said.

And Merson does not believe either player will improve Antonio Conte’s squad.

“[But] if [we have] one injury we are in trouble”. I’ve watch him pretty much every weekend since he joined PSG, I can hardly remember four games where he was actually good, or very good maybe.

Both Luiz and Alonso will be hoping to feature for the west London side when Chelsea return to Premier League action after the worldwide break with a trip to Swansea City on Sunday 11 September.

Luiz was a fan favorite during his Stamford Bridge days.

But the Brazilian told ChelseaTV: “This is the past”.

Chelsea now holds second place in the Premier League standings, with Manchester City at the first.

At Manchester City, five players who have fallen out of favour under new manager Pep Guardiola left Eastlands on season-long loans.

“I am very excited to test myself in an important and attractive league”.

“Chelsea Football Club and Paris Saint-Germain have agreed terms for the transfer of David Luiz back to London”, a statement on Chelsea’s website read, similar to PSG’s own statement. “I love this club so that is why I am here”, he said.

“I am pleased he is staying at Chelsea because he is a great forward and he has already scored two really important goals for us this season”.
