Mexico calls Trump wall plan ‘outrageous’ after visit

Trump reiterated in a speech on Wednesday that the only way undocumented foreigners could live in the United States legally under his presidency would be to leave and apply for re-entry. “That will be for a later date”.

“After that, the conversation moved on to other topics and unfolded in a respectful manner”, he added in another tweet. Trump and Peña Nieto’s news conference in Mexico City on Wednesday did little to remedy that.

On the plus side for Trump, his return to the immigration red meat has excited his core supporters-but they were all set to vote for him anyway. “Look, we do it in a very humane way, and we’re going to see with the people that are in the country”. They don’t know it yet, but they’re going to pay for the wall.

While the speech was welcomed by many on the right – conservative commentator Ann Coulter on Twitter called it “the most magnificent speech ever given” – many of Trump’s Hispanic supporters panned it, including some members of his Hispanic advisory board who said they’re considering pulling their support because the speech was too harsh.

Immigration is Trump’s signature issue as he battles Democrat Hillary Clinton ahead of the November 8 election, and he laid out a tough, 10-point plan to end illegal border crossings and abusive behavior by undocumented people in the country.

Trump has failed in his first foreign policy test, his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton said as the real estate tycoon returned from Mexico City. He acknowledged that the 11 million who were not criminals needed some accommodation whether it was touchback or going back to their home countries quickly. He added: “Within ICE I am going to create a new special deportation task force focused on identifying and quickly removing the most risky criminal illegal immigrants in America who have evaded justice just like Hillary Clinton has evaded justice, OK?”

“I want to again thank him for his gracious hospitality, and express my belief that we can work together to accomplish great things for both of our countries”, Trump said, referring to the Mexican leader.

Some members of a council Trump formed last month to advise him on Hispanic issues expressed reservations about or cut ties to the NY real estate developer’s candidacy after the Phoenix speech. Yesterday, the Republican Party nominee went to Mexico to meet with President Enrique Peña Nieto.

Monty called the speech, which Trump delivered in Phoenix after a whirlwind trip to Mexico earlier in the day, a “complete betrayal to Republican ideals and his [commitments] made”.

“The imagery offered by Trump’s visit to Mexico sharply contradicts the narrative chosen by the Democrats”.
