“Locally, southwesterly wind will continue to stream in tropical moisture over the area through Friday”, Campos said.

Good news for South Mississippi: the long-awaited turn to the northeast has finally begun with Tropical Storm Hermine, according to the NHC on Wednesday afternoon. These rains may cause flooding and flash flooding.

The watch area includes the Georgia cities of Brunswick and St. Marys.

The tropical depression was about 115 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras on Tuesday morning with top sustained winds of 35 mph.

A hurricane watch has been issued for the Florida Gulf Coast from the Anclote River to Indian Pass.

Meanwhile, a tropical depression that skirted by North Carolina’s Outer Banks overnight is now moving northeastward further out into the Atlantic. Since 2010 alone, the number of residents in the state grew by 7.8%.

On Wednesday, the governor issued an executive order declaring the state of emergency in 42 counties.

During the briefing with Scott, DEM staff said the storm will likely cross over the state to Jacksonville over about one day.

Earlier, Florida Gov. Rick Scott added nine more counties to a state of emergency declaration. “This state knows what to do”.

No direct tropical impacts are expected in South Mississippi at this time. Byron Miller, manager of The Ocracoke Harbor Inn, said in a telephone interview that “it’s just a normal day”.

National Weather Service forecasts called for mostly sunny weather on Saturday and sunny skies on Sunday and Monday.

A tropical storm warning for the North Carolina coast was dropped Tuesday night.

Rainfall was expected to slacken for areas to the east, such as Beaufort, where an inch or two was forecast.

National Hurricane forecasters aren’t taking chances with the meandering tropical depression nine, saying this morning the system could become a weak hurricane before landfall. Rainfall amounts of 5 to 10 inches are possible over portions of central and northern Florida through Friday, with isolated maximum amounts of 15 inches possible, the National Hurricane Center said. Sumter County could see 3 to 5 inches of rain. A tropical storm warning is in effect for Anclote River to the county line between Walton and Bay counties. That area is also under a hurricane watch. The Hurricane Center says it also could become a hurricane by the time it makes landfall.
