The Cowboys are considering putting Tony Romo on injured reserve

Romo’s brittle recent history, paired with Dak Prescott’s sensational preseason, have led some, including yours truly, to suggest Romo might not get his starting job back if Prescott is, in fact, the real deal. Prescott has completed 78 percent of his passes in the preseason for 454 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions. But Garrett said the 36-year-old woke up Friday with stiffness, and an MRI revealed Romo’s fourth back injury in less than four years. Garrett wouldn’t fully speculate on Romo’s return or the projected layover of at least six weeks. We also know he’s played with a broken bone in his back before, so there is no reason for me to stand up here and put a timetable on this. Do the Cowboys instantly insert Tony Romo into the starting lineup when he’s given a clean bill of health? Unfortunately for the Cowboys, they don’t have the luxury of giving him sans-pressure time off the field in his rookie year, with Davis, if he’s signed, being nothing more than a backup.

In a recent appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio’s Movin’ The Chains show, Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones revealed that the team’s trainer, Mike Woicik, thinks that their rookie quarterback has the qualities of the New England Patriots superstar. “And we can win with this”.

That means a lot of shotgun formations since that’s what he did in college at Mississippi State.

“We’re going to have to rely on each other”, Elliott said. We all saw that firsthand a year ago. “We live in the world day by day, do what you can to get yourself better and we’ll update you as we go”. We have to grow as coaches our players have to grow in that environment.

The injuries to Romo and Bryant (broken foot) overshadowed a defense that was missing Orlando Scandrick, who was lost for the season to a knee injury in training camp. Scandrick shot back at reporters this week. We look at the fantasy implications. “But the reality is, Tony’s going to come back for us and play great, we believe”. “You build a team to withstand this kind of stuff”. The Cowboys have a bye in Week Seven, so Romo would miss seven games with a minimum stay on IR.

The Cowboys met with Austin Davis, who was released by the Cleveland Browns two days ago, on Wednesday but have not reached an agreement with the free-agent quarterback.

“I don’t think our guys would even consider trading Prescott for Lynch right now”, Jones told the website. Lest we forget the beginning of Tom Brady and look at where that has got his team now? “I’m reaching out to Romo, so it is what it is”.
