Bastian Schweinsteiger: Man United my last European club

Manchester United’s veteran midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger on Wednesday insisted that he is ready to fight for a place at the football club after being sidelined by new coach Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho said: “I’m not saying it’s impossible, I’m saying that it is very hard because we have Pogba, Herrera, Schneiderlin, Fellaini and Michael Carrick”.

The coveted Bayern Munich and Germany midfielder has all but been frozen out of Jose Mourinho’s first-team picture, having trained with the reserves since the Portuguese coach’s arrival. “I’m saying it’s very difficult”.

“I think it’s very hard [for Schweinsteiger]”.

The two obvious destinations at this moment in time are the MLS and China, two leagues with a reputation of signing big name players as they reach the end of their career. “It’s very hard that an opportunity will arrive (for him)”, Mourinho told reporters.

Manchester United players reportedly had to warn Bastian Schweinsteiger to stop watching tennis and focus on getting fit when he was out injured last season. “It’s his life, his career”, Mourinho said at his weekly press conference today and he suggested that there is little chance of Schweinsteiger appearing for the first team. Some players react in a different way.

The way things are, there is very little chance of Mourinho reversing his stance about Schweinsteiger and giving him a chance in the team.

“I thought, when I read some quotes from people at Bayern Munich, they would run to Manchester to bring him back, but no, that didn’t happen”, the United manager said. I’m quite surprised Karl-Heinze is not here to take him back.

German daily Bild says the 32-year-old is free to leave Old Trafford for £2m this month, which is about £4.5m less than what was paid to Bayern a year back.

“I have 23 players in the squad and, in principle, there is nobody leaving and nobody is coming”, the former Chelsea manager continued. “Not surrounded by helicopters waiting for someone to arrive or leave – I am more than happy with the squad I have”. That is more than enough. One would have to think he’s disappointed with the current situation.
