The initial reported timeframe for Romo to be sidelined was 6-10 weeks, but if placed on injured reserve he would not be eligible to return until Dallas’ game against Cleveland on November 6, placing his current recovery time closer to 8-10 weeks.

Nearly every source that knows anything about Romo’s back injury states that he will he out approximately 6-to-10 weeks?

“He just going to start getting into rehab and part of his rehab is he’s going to be wearing a back brace for now, ” Garrett told reporters Sunday.

“I didn’t even see him until after I celebrated (with teammates Bobby Wagner and others) and I saw him still on the ground”. Now, the 36-year-old is headed is headed for a second MRI and is facing the possibility of a short-term injured reserve trip with an expanded timeline of 8-10 weeks, per the Star-Telegram. “The name of the game for us has always been focusing on taking things one day at a time and also have the “next man in” mentality”.

Romo’s brittle recent history, paired with Dak Prescott’s sensational preseason, have led some, including yours truly, to suggest Romo might not get his starting job back if Prescott is, in fact, the real deal.

Prescott now takes over as the starter with Jameill Showers as the backup.

This means Prescott would be the starter for the first six games of the regular season. The quality of his preparation is a real comforting thought here.

National Football League rumors in Dallas imply that the Cowboys see Dak Prescott as the future of the franchise.

There aren’t many options for Dallas. With three dynamic running backs in Elliott, Darren McFadden, and Alfred Morris the Cowboys will have a consistent running threat behind Prescott, which could lead to a successful read option from the rookie quarterback.

But Romo’s recovery remains the major storyline.

“We just have to excite ball plays with the players we have on the field”, Garrett said. “I don’t know if anyone does”.

“I think when I talked to you guys in April, the first thing we had to do coming off that season was we had to evaluate that thoroughly”, Witten said. If there is potential he could return by mid-October, the Cowboys could better justify keeping him on the active roster.

If Prescott starts against the Giants on September 11, he’ll make his professional debut under the bright lights of “Sunday Night Football”.
