Former NFL player Darren Sharper was sentenced to 18 years in prison Thursday for drugging and raping up to 16 women.

Before being indicted in Arizona, Sharper was arrested in California on charges of drugging and raping two women in that state.

A multi-jurisdictional plea was made by prosecutors who originally suggested a 9-year prison.

He played in the National Football League for 14 years and in addition the Saints, had stints with the Minnesota Vikings and the Green Bay Packers before retiring in 2010.

A woman who woke up next to Sharper after being drugged also spoke before Triche handed down the sentence. Does 18 years seem like enough time for you? He will be moved to a federal facility outside of Louisiana to serve the remainder of his prison time, and Milazzo said Thursday she would recommend a prison closer to Sharper’s family in Richmond, Virginia. “I’m still trying to figure out why I decided to make some of (those) choices”.

He played in 2010 Super Bowl for Saints that they won and before that for Packers as a rookie.

One of Sharper’s victims, though, scolded him in court. Nine victims came forward in Sharper’s case, but Judge Milazzo revealed that the total number of victims could be as high as 16.

Licciardi and a second co-defendant in New Orleans, Erik Nunez, will be sentenced on October 13. After the end of his career in 2011, he worked as a television analyst for a station in New Orleans and then the NFL Network.
