Three of the five Notre Dame football players arrested on August 19 – senior Max Redfield, sophomore Te’von Coney and freshman Kevin Stepherson – appeared in court Tuesday morning for their preliminary hearings.

Redfield, sophomore linebacker Te’von Coney, freshman receiver Kevin Stepherson, redshirt freshman cornerback Ashton White and sophomore running back Dexter Williams were all charged Monday with possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor. A not guilty plea also was entered on Redfield’s behalf on a misdemeanor charge of carrying a handgun without a license. Those four players are still with the team.
The five are scheduled to be in Fulton County Court for an initial hearing Tuesday morning.
The officer smelled “the distinct odor of raw marijuana” according to the court documents and had all five players get out of the vehicle, handcuffed them, and sat them on the pavement for a K9 search.
Police then found a gun in the back passenger floorboard while searching for possible drugs in the vehicle.
All five players told the officers the gun was not their gun, according to the court documents.
The five players are shown seated and cuffed on the side of US 31, this after police say they discovered marijuana and a handgun in their vehicle, and amid the bustling body camera, sounds of wailing.
Coney, Redfield and Stepherson each appeared in person Tuesday in Fulton Superior Court in Rochester. Additionally, 12 tablets of prescription drugs were found in White’s possession, though he was not charged with possession of a prescription drug.

Coney is scheduled for a pre-trial conference October 12, while Redfield and Stepherson are each set to appear for pre-trial conferences October 19. Court dates for Williams and White have not yet been set. He was also kicked off the team.
