Loss to Burnley baffles Reds boss Klopp

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will not be swayed by the criticism raining down on left-back Alberto Moreno and is in no rush to sign a replacement.

Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat to Burnley was because of mistakes going forward and not sloppy defending. We’re not Liverpool and Chelsea and Manchester United and Manchester City and say, “Right we need him and we’ll have him, let’s go and get him”, because the market is away from us.

Addressing reporters, he said: “I know you would all buy a left-back, but a midfielder?” If you tell me a year ago we could have played at Burnley like this, not ideal of course, I would be really surprised. Milly can play it really good, we saw that in the Barcelona game.

There was little more for Liverpool fans to witness as good interlink play created very little and when an opportunity was presented the wrong decision was taken; Coutinho choosing the wrong option from inside the box on 41 minutes.

Andre Gray almost followed up a minute later but Dejan Lovren made a goal-saving tackle.

Asked what could be taken away from the setback against the newly-promoted Clarets, who won the Championship title last term, Wijnaldum said: “Every game, I try to learn because every game is different”.

“It was a situation, a challenge between two players up in the air, coming down and then Sadio fell on his shoulder but it’s not that serious”, Klopp explained. “If being angry makes sense, I can be angry with you in a moment”.

We lacked steel in midfield at Turf Moor, and lost 50/50s that we’d hope Can would have fared better in. They still look like a Europa League qualifying side to me, and Saturday brought a result that was not even befitting that status. We lost the ball in the wrong moments, where we were open to the counter attack, our decision-making wasn’t good. “We will work on it 100 percent”. “But we did. Now we have to accept the result and carry on”.

“We do have a number of players in our squad who can play as a left-back but we are not blind”.

“I want to offer a honest and unreserved apology to anybody I may have offended in relation to these tweets”, he said.
