Rashford’s late show sparks wild celebrations at Hull

Eighteen-year-old striker Rashford scored victor on Saturday in their 1-0 win against Hull and managed eight goals last season despite having only made his first-team debut in February.

While United’s victory extended their 100 per cent winning start to the campaign ahead of next month’s derby against Manchester City at Old Trafford, Hull dropped points for the first time this season under Phelan.

Rashford only made his debut for the Red Devils in February earlier this year and just a few months later the 18-year-old was turning out for England at Euro 2016.

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho says that he would prefer Saturday’s hero Marcus Rashford to be selected to play for England’s Under-21s rather than sitting on the senior squad’s substitute’s bench.

“In the two matches when we have needed a victor, against Leicester and today, he has done the job”, Mourinho told journalists.

Keane, who came through the youth ranks at Manchester United, saw his path to the first-team blocked by United’s star-studded squad.

Wayne Rooney broke into laughter as he revealed that Marcus Rashford’s stoppage-time movement had passed him by.

“I have two weeks before the next match, I have to analyse the opponent and see the way my boys are coming back from the worldwide games”, Mourinho said. We were very strong and tried to create problems for the opposition.

“I don’t want to go in that direction”.

He added: “I know when we score late people will speak about a bit of luck but the reality is we deserved it, especially in the second half”.

He said: “I’m 23 now, so I wanted to come here on a permanent transfer and get settled”.

“But I think top players have to have more time on the pitch than on the bench”.

‘I was trying to concentrate on getting past the defender and once I was past him I looked up and I just saw bodies in the box. They weren’t playing with the intensity that we need and he was part of it. Everybody is speaking about him and Ibra [Zlatan Ibrahimovic] – they can play together as they showed today.
