The life and work of Gene Wilder has profoundly affected culture over the last 40 years, and many fans in El Paso will want to celebrate the actor. “They, to me, were the antithesis of how chemistry on film doesn’t always mean it translates off. Gene was a true grownup and I never saw him party”.
Although Wilder maintained that he wasn’t a comedian, he turned to comedy at an early age to keep his mother, who was suffering from heart disease, uplifted and free of stress through laughter.
A few years later, Brooks cast Wilder in “The Producers“, for which Wilder was nominated for a supporting actor Academy Award.
Actor/singer Harry Connick, Jr. posted: “so sad to learn of the passing of my good friend, gene wilder. such an incredible man. i’ll miss you”, and funnyman Ricky Gervais quoted Wilder’s Willy Wonka character in his tribute, writing, “Good Day Sir!”
Mel Brooks shared his thoughts on Twitter shortly after hearing about Gene Wilder’s death.
What was your favorite film he starred in? The duo continued their fruitful collaborations with Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, which Wilder co-wrote, earning both him and Brooks Oscar nominations for best adapted screenplay.
Gene Wilder is being remembered by Peter Ostrum – who played Charlie Buckett in Wilder’s signature role as the mysterious chocolate maker in “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory”.
Born Jerome Silberman to Russian immigrants in Milwaukee, Wilder studied at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre in Bristol, England, and then studied method acting at the Actors Studio.
“The genius, the talent, the actor, the original, the artist, the storyteller, the creative, the iconic, the great, great, great Gene Wilder”.

I’m in pain and I’m wet Most people will be unable to think of the Producers without thinking of Springtime for Hitler or the refrain “Bialystock and Bloom”. “And clearly one of the great clowns the Chaplin of talkies in some way, I would say”.
