“For my siblings and me, Frank was like a revered older brother whom we looked up to and admired”. Gifford did it three times in the era of the 12-game seasons.

And if you ever leave a legacy for your children, let it be that you’ve taught them friendship with God and you’ve taught them to find their stone and show it. Show it, throw it, hard and well.

It’s unfortunate that as a player Gifford became so identified with one play and thus was the “Poster Boy” for the dangers of the game, thanks to his now-iconic concussion delivered by the Eagles’ one and only “Concrete Charlie” Bednarik.

After completing high school in 1948, Gifford spent a year at Bakersfield Junior College earning academic credits for the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, where he was offered a football scholarship. When the play on the field stunk up the joint, the booth could be the show with Gifford perfectly suited to be the ringmaster. The legendary football player was indeed one of the great ones of the sport, playing 12 years with the New York Giants (1952-1964) and visiting the Pro Bowl on a number of occasions. “Because the only thing Frank was ever afraid of in his entire life was being a burden to those he loved”. He retired for good in 1964. Gifford was one of the rare athletes that transcended sports. The Santa Monica native is also a member of the 1994 inaugural class of USC’s Athletic Hall of Fame. He might have been the happiest, most content man at this point in his life.’ she said. It was his second marriage. What he didn’t see was Chuck Bednarik – and the Eagle leveled him. “But that’s her”.

Gifford died Sunday of natural causes in the home he shared with Kathie Lee.

“Frank is my husband, my confidant, lover, therapist, parenting partner and best friend”.

After the uproar over Seau, the Hall of Fame finally allowed his daughter on stage to answer a question and she give a short version of the speech.

The rosy picture was shattered in 1997 by news that Gifford was having an affair.

He married Kathie Lee Epstein in 1986.

Heavenly Joy appeared at the end of the program as well with a cake for Kathie Lee, whose birthday was Sunday.

“Deeply grateful to all 4 ur outpouring of grace”.

She then asked those watching to thank the people around them in her husband’s honor, especially civil servants such as firefighters and police officers – something Frank frequently took the time to do according to his wife.
