Mets 2B Walker out for season, getting back surgery
The disc is what’s causing the tingling sensation in the foot, similar to what Walker experienced in 2012 with the Pirates. With each subsequent opinion he sought from back specialists, his reality grew more bleak. And his decision to opt for surgery came as a surprise to the Mets. “We’ve had a lot of injuries but we have to keep playing with what we have”. “I did everything I could.”.

Christian Yelich showed off his bat, legs and glove, capped by hitting a three-run homer that helped the Marlins end their season-worst five-game losing streak. Neil Walker has had back issues recently but has played through it. Instead, the cause was the “culmination of the wear and tear of baseball”. Matz was supposed to be that guy, but that is all up in the air right now while this shoulder injury keeps him on the shelf.
On Wednesday afternoon, general manager Sandy Alderson tried to downplay the severity of Walker’s condition, calling it “pretty”. The ever-swinging clubhouse door is not ideal for a team scuffling to overtake the more stable wild-card competitors in San Francisco and St. Louis, and leaves Terry Collins with less and less to work with every day.
Walker joined third baseman David Wright, first baseman Lucas Duda, ace Matt Harvey and other Mets to be struck by significant injuries this year. “I had to be honest with what was going on here”. He didn’t say one thing about next year. “He wants to wait one more day, which I totally get”. “We’re certainly very disappointed that it comes to this”.
Walker will undergo a microdiscectomy, a procedure that will relieve pressure from his spinal column.
About to hit the free agent market, Walker was putting up the numbers of a man who would have easily found a job.
Reliever Fernando Salas – the first palindromic surname in Mets history (last name spelled the same backward and forward) – pitched a scoreless seventh inning in his debut following a trade with the Angels late Wednesday night for Single-A pitcher Eric Manoah. Zach Wheeler, still recovering from Tommy John surgery, never even made it to the season.

The Mets declined to offer Daniel Murphy a multiyear contract, which hastened their search for a replacement. In those 113 games, Walker has posted a.282 batting average with 23 homers and 55 RBIs. Recovery time for the procedure is three months, effectively ending Walker’s season. It also remains to be seen whether this diminishes the Mets’ interest in Walker. Collins and the Mets are desperate for healthy players that can produce.
