Back in March, both President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama spoke at the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Texas.

Titled South By South Lawn, the single-day event will take place on October 3, bringing together music, film, interactive booths and panel discussions. The interactive section will include panel discussions with “influencers who are using their platforms to bring about positive change”.

The president’s interview, conducted by Texas Tribune editor Evan Smith, focused on ways that technology and innovation can rapidly solve some of the country’s problems and how those same tech disruptions can also raise some unsettling problems. Students in grades K-12 have submitted more than 700 short films for this year’s theme, ‘The World I Want to Live In’. The submissions are inspiring and we’re excited to share official selections and honor young filmmakers as part of this event.

The White House invites people around the country to nominate their community members, or themselves, if they are creating change, big or small, to attend.

The music portion of the festival will feature performances by “well-known and emerging artists”, with a more specific lineup still to come. Just make sure you get your entry in before 5pm ET on September 10.
