According to David Chao, an orthopedic surgeon that focuses on athletes, Geno’s recovery time could be significantly shorter than originally anticipated.

With expected starter Geno Smith out 6-10 weeks with a broken jaw, the Jets brought Matt Flynn in for a physical Friday, but did not work him out.
Rather than having the jaw wired shut, Smith had plates and screws inserted during his surgery. This one was from Todd Bowles.
“I nearly just walked right to the line”, wide receiver Jeremy Kerley said.
“I didn’t get hurt”, Bowles said with a big grin, “so I must have been OK”. He joked that more fights “probably” will occur because of the combination of “testosterone, ” fatigue and heat. “I already knew”. We’re not the only team that does it [makes players run sprints for fighting].
There is also a question of what kind of shape Smith will return in when he’s ready to come back. The defense will look to rebound week two against the Falcons at home.
