A club-record £15million deal for Malaga’s Ignacio Camacho was in place on Monday before Pulis decided against a move and attentions shifted to an ambitious £25m move for Portugal global William Carvalho that was ultimately unsuccessful.
The disagreement was sparked by Pulis deciding against pursuing the transfer of Ignacio Camacho despite West Brom triggering the £15 million release clause in the Malaga midfielder’s contract, which would have seen the west Midlands club break their transfer record for a second time in the summer window.
Rumours surrounding Tony Pulis being the next Premier League manager to leave have increased this week following the Baggies activity or lack of in the transfer window. The Wales worldwide has been available all summer long but was only deemed essential to the club at 23:16 on Transfer Deadline Day.
However, contrary to those stories, the 58-year-old Welshman is not looking to end his stay with the Baggies.
Pulis has come under pressure during the last few weeks, but the general consensus amongst fans is that he is the man best placed to secure their Premier League safety with the players they have left.
Williams’ statement hinted at potential trouble at the top at The Hawthorns.
He said in a statement: “Our head coach Tony Pulis is very selective and particular about the players he recruits so it follows that the new team members will add significantly to his first-team options”.
‘That having been said, the one disappointment we suffered was not being able to add a further quality midfield player.
‘But it was decided for footballing reasons not to pursue this.
