Schweinsteiger resigned to United reserves

Schweinsteiger’s future at Old Trafford was already being called into question before Van Gaal was unceremoniously sacked days after the FA Cup triumph in May before new manager Jose Mourinho chose to cut the former Bayern Munich midfielder adrift. I’m not saying it’s impossible, I’m saying that it’s very hard.

Diplomatically, Schweinsteiger also noted that he would be ready to serve Jose Mourinho should the team need him, despite being told that he is not part of the Portuguese manager’s plans for this season.

United have since made the world record £89 million signing of fellow midfielder Paul Pogba. I can not answer for him. He has a contract, he has a right to make a decision and stay. Probably, but that’s football and Mourinho has made no apologies about his decision. I’ve done that throughout my career.

“I normally like to work with 20 players plus the three goalkeepers, which is what I do for 15 years”. “He is free to do that in an objective and polite way like he did”.

He said: “I thought, when I read some quotes from people at Bayern Munich, they would run to Manchester to bring (Schweinsteiger) back, but no, that didn’t happen”.

However, Mourinho took a swipe at Bayern Munich, who have criticised Manchester United and him for the way the German legend has been treated.

He hasn’t quite lived up to expectations at Man United and he has his work cut out ahead of him to try and get ahead the likes of Pogba, Herrera, Schneiderlin, Fellaini and Carrick.

Stoke assistant manager Mark Bowen has confirmed that the Potters are interested in signing Jones before the end of the transfer window. It’s very, very hard that an opportunity will arrive.

Schweinsteiger came through the youth ranks at Bayern Munich and spent 13 years as a first-team player there, winning eight Bundesliga titles, seven German Cups and the 2012-13 Champions League.

“I have 23 players in the squad and in principle nobody is leaving because I don’t want anybody to leave and nobody is coming – 23 players is more than enough”.

Schweinsteiger may have ruled out playing for another European club, but his statement may suggest he could play for a club outside of Europe.

“I think that more points will be needed to win the competition because numerous top teams under-performed a year ago, which was wonderful for the beauty of the competition”, Mourinho added.
